Dogara Leads Dignitaries To Justice Ukeje’s Classy Book Launch

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, on Tuesday October 23, led a long list of dignitaries to the public presentation of  a book written by Former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rose Ukeje. The launch of the book titled, “Intrinsic And Extrinsic Aids to the Interpretation of  the Constitution, Statues and Private Documents” turned out to be a platform for old friends of the respected jurist to celebrate her. However, it was one of the jurist’s new friends, Speaker Dogara, who kick-started a rousing session of commendation for Justice Ukeje, saying her new book will bridge the gap in legal interpretation. “There is a yawning gap in this area of law, and thankfully she has decided in make a concerted effort at plugging this gap.

 The issue of interpretation of statues including the constitution is absolutely important in the advancement of our democracy”, the Speaker said. Also speaking at the event anchored by Nollywood star, Charles Okafor, Victoria Awomolo (SAN), who attended the event with her husband, Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), hailed the author for thinking of the future of legal profession by writing a book that would educate legal and non-legal minds.

Majority Leaders of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who unveiled the book, showered Justice Ukeje with encomium,  saying she was an intellectual worthy of emulation. Daughter of the author and Chairperson House Committee on Foreign Relations, Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, said her family was overwhelmed with the show of love and support by friends, who thronged NAF Center venue of the book presentation. Responding to the commendations that came her way, Justice Ukeje expressed optimism that the laws of the country would be better understood lawyer and noon legal practitioners who consult the book.

Some of the dignitaries as the event include, President of the Nigerian courts of appeal Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa, Primate of the Church of Nigeria in the Anglican Communion, Nicholas Okoh, Justice Binta Nyako, Senator Andy Ubah, House Deputy Whip Hon Pally Iriase, Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Chukwuka Onyema, Chairman of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Sam Amuka and former Director-General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Prof. Ndi Okereke Onyuike. Also at the event were, former Head of Service of the Federation, Engr. Ebele Okeke, former Director-General of NAPTIP, Carol Ndaguba, former minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Chris Uche (SAN) and  Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin. Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo State was represented by Festus Osagie.
