Osun election: Police arraigns Davido’s Uncle Ademola Adeleke over WAEC saga

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the September 22, 2018 election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was on Wednesday arraigned before Justice I. E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Adeleke, who is an uncle to popular music star, Davido, and four others were docked based on a four-count charge of examination malpractices filed against them by the Nigeria Police.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, through the prosecuting counsel, Mr, Simon Lough, had on September 19, 2018, filed the charges against Adeleke and his four co-accused.

Charged by the police alongside Adeleke were Sikiru Adeleke, the Principal of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School; Alhaji Aregbesola Muftau, the Registrar of the School; Gbadamosi Ojo and a teacher in the school, Dare Samuel Olutope.

The police accused the five defendants of committing examination malpractices by fraudulently, through impersonation, registering Adeleke and another Sikiru Adeleke, as students of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, in Ojo-Aro in Osun State, for the National Examination Council of June/July 2017 Senior School Certificate Examination in February 2017.

During the hearing of the matter, all the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

Against this backdrop, the trial judge, Justice Edward Eko granted Adeleke bail on self-recognition.

Justice Eko ordered that the lawmaker should deposit his international passport with the court registrar, and that he can only travel out of the country on the court’s approval.

While ordering Senator Adeleke to sign a bond guaranteeing that he will attend the trial till the end, the judge also ordered the other three defendants to produce the sum of N2m bail bonds and one surety each in like sum.

Justice Eko subsequently adjourned the matter until December 17, 18 and 19 for the continuation of trial.
