Manchester United vs Newcastle: Club speaks on sacking Mourinho after EPL clash
Jose Mourinho’s future at Manchester United is not in immediate danger, despite reports emerging on Friday night claiming he would be sacked, no matter the result against Newcastle.
The Red Devils have endured a miserable few weeks, drawing at home to Wolves and Valencia, losing away to West Ham and exiting the Carabao Cup.
There are also rumours of a breakdown in relations between Mourinho and his players.
If they fail to beat Newcastle, it will be the first time since 1999 the club have gone five home games without a win.
However, fresh reports from the BBC say the United board still support Mourinho and met with his representative, Jorge Mendes, in London on Friday.
The club reassured Mourinho’s camp that he would still be given time to turn things around, and club officials dismissed reports of his looming exit as nonsense.
A win over Newcastle, would, therefore, not be accompanied by Mourinho’s exit, though another miserable performance and poor result could put his position at the club back under threat.
