Police arrest 25 suspected cultists

Edo State Police Command has arrested 25 suspected cultists in parts of the state within 30 days, Commissioner Hakeem Odumosun has said.

He said the suspects belonged to Aiye, Jurist, Vikings and Eiye confraternity.

Odumosun, who briefed reporters yesterday, alleged that three of the suspects, Ehizode Israel, Esumen Emmanuel and Idahosa Orobosa, were linked to the killing of Oriakhi Osemwengie on February 2.

He said police operatives rescued seven persons, who were abducted on the Benin-Lagos road and recovered two vehicles from the kidnappers.

The police boss said the leader of a kidnap gang that murdered a policeman last month, had been killed, while other members of the gang fled to neighbouring states.

He said Princess Oberuomo Jakpor, 54, was arrested at Oluku in Ovia North East Local Government for allegedly duping her victims N4.3million.

Odumosun said the suspect confessed that her victims parted with the money to enable her procure travelling documents for them.

He assured the public of security of lives and property.

Some of the suspected cultists confessed, but said they were planning to renounce membership.
