‘Average bus fare decreased in December’
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday said the average fare by commuters for bus journey within cities in the country decreased from N192.46 in November 2018 to N181.61 in December 2018.
The bureau said this in its Transport Fare Watch (December 2018) report released in Abuja.
According to the report, the fare decreased by -5.64 per cent month-on-month and increased by 5.99 per cent year-on-year in the period under review.
It noted that states with highest bus journey fare within the city are Abuja (N312.50), Cross River (N323.08) and Zamfara (N300.00).
It said the states with lowest bus journey fare within the city are Rivers (N128.13), Anambra (N125.79) and Bauchi (N100.00).
According to the report, the average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity decreased to N1,579.11 in the period under review from N1,790.14 recorded in November 2018.
It noted that the price decreased by -11.79 per cent month-on-month and 7.99 per cent year-on-year in the period under review.

The bureau listed states with the highest bus journey fare intercity to include Abuja (N4,633.33), Borno (N2,500.00) and Adamawa (N2,275.00).
It said states with lowest bus journey fare within the city are Nasarawa (N155.56), Plateau (N254.29) and Bauchi (N966.67).
The NBS said the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey decreased to N31,471.62 in December 2018 from N32,804.05 recorded in November of the same year.
According to the bureau, the fare by air passengers decreased by -4.06 per cent month-on-month and by -5.73 per cent year-on-year in the period under review.
It said: “States with highest air fare are Lagos (N36,500.00), Abuja FCT (N38,500.00) and Jigawa (N38,500.00).
“Also, states with lowest air fare are Oyo (N25,000.00), Taraba (N25,500.00), and Katsina (N23,750.00).
