Kogi govt upgrades Ologidi stool
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has approved the upgrading of the stool of Ologidi of Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area to second class status.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Ohere, broke the news to reporters at the end of a meeting of the State Executive Council (Exco) in Lokoja, the state capital.
The governor’s aide said the approval was in exercise of the powers conferred on the governor by relevant state laws.
Fifty-nine other traditional rulers from various communities in the three senatorial districts of the state were also upgraded.
The Ologidi of Ogidi, Oba Rabiu Oladimeji Sule, was appointed in 2008 and the state government announced the upgrading of his stool to third class status.
At the famous Ogidi Day Festival on June 17, last year, Ohere announced that the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had forwarded to the Exco a recommendation for the upgrading of the stool to second class status.
He noted that in making its recommendation to the government, his office considered the historical, cultural and strategic importance of Ogidi as well as its towering influence in the area.
He said Oba Sule had creditably discharged his responsibilities in maintaining peace in his domain.
