Terry McMahon in Nigeria for ‘Caged in the Creeks’

CONCERNED about how Nigeria has been represented around the world in a negative light, Riveting Integrated entertainment Limited and Twice as Nice limited have teamed up to bring award winning Irish movie director Terry McMahon to Nigeria on its movie titled, Caged in the Creeks to change the narrative about the country and its people.
Terry McMahon who is known for hit movies like Charlie Casanova and Batman Begin among others is bringing his experience as an international director to Nollywood in this action thriller.
Written and produced by Leke Akinrowo, Caged in the Creeks Is a story about international terrorists and local militants coming together to threaten the well being and fate of the country, and how the main character, who happens a former united states marine forms an alliance with a former Nigerian army captain and ECOMOG veteran to save their love ones entangled in the web of intrigues and save the country from a catastrophe plot being hatched by the international hoodlums.
Speaking at a meet and greet session in Lagos, Terry said he is glad to be a part of the movie that would be a major move in the history of Nollywood; “Well, it is about perception. But I think it is a history that I want to be part of the Nollywood history. And my coming into Nigeria is to bring the Western character into Nollywood. I have got to bring in quality into ”Caged in the Creeks”, to meet the industry’s expectations”, said McMahon
“they want revolutionalize the cinema production in the Nollywood industry and he asked me how it could be achieved. And I suggested he took the most famous players in the Island film industry to feature in his film. So, I am in Nigeria to revolutionize cinema production in the Nollywood industry.
“No matter how the world depicts Nigerians and Nigeria, the truth remains that Nigerians are unique people living their lives in a remarkable way. There is basic religious freedom in the country. So it is not a shock for me to see that Nigerians are extra-ordinary people”.
The producer Leke Akinrowo said he got motivated to write and produce the movie as a result of his experience in Port Harcourt, Rivers State; “In 2009 I was transferred to Port Harcourt from work and my experiences there are largely responsible for this movie” said Akinrowo.
“There have been misconceptions about Niger Delta. When I got to PH I met people like me who were living their lives despite the horror stories we heard in Lagos. More importantly, I’ve had this vision of doing something really ambitious in Nollywood. Maybe not in terms of money but something that has real debt which is one of the major problems our stories tend to have.
“There is that endless possibilities or capabilities in everyman to overcome himself in order to right any wrong he/she has done in the past. When you get to the road, the choices you have are death or survival. We have characters in this movie that will have to confront their worst fears to right their wrongs in the past.”
Also, the co- producer, Elvina Ibru said Caged in the Creeks is meant to change the narrative out Nigeria and its people to the outside world. In this movie, we are the heroes. I can tell that this one is going to be different” she said.
“We are going to show that there is more to us than what people think out there. Nigeria has been shown to the world in a negative light and we want to stop it with this movie. I believe the project will speak for itself”.
Akinrowo further disclosed that shooting will commence early next year while the movie will be released later that same year 2019.
“We are looking at early next year to start the principal photography. The work is going to take a few month but we are hoping we can release by summer next year”.
