Many Yoruba in the Diaspora afraid to be back home due to insecurity in the country – Ooni of Ife, Ogunwusi
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi on Monday declared that many people who are of Yoruba ethnic extraction in the Diaspora are afraid to come home due to security situation in the South West region.
Ogunwusi made this declaration while speaking at a security summit, tagged, “South West Geopolitical Zone Security Summit”, held at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan in Oyo state.
At the event which had the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammad Adamu as convener were; Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Naimot Salako-Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Lagos state Mr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Ondo, Agboola Ajayi and Deputy of Ekiti state.
Others are; Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Otunba Gani Adams, Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Mr. Rauf Olaniyan, service chiefs, traditional rulers included, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Oba of Lagos, Oba Ridwan Akiolu,
Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun; Balogun of Ibadan land, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin; Asipa Olubadan, High Chief Eddy Oyewole; Asipa Balogun, High Chief Lateef Adebimpe; Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Amidu Ajibade and Ekarun Balogun, High Chief Kola Adegbola.
The monarch when asked to speak on behalf of traditional rulers from Osun State, insisted that many Yorubas who are in the Diaspora are afraid to come to the region due to insecurity.
Ogunwusi who spoke in Yoruba language advised governors in the region to without wasting more time, shun partisan politics on issues that affect the people of the region.
He said that it has gotten to a situation where Yoruba in the Diaspora are afraid to come home, by visiting their relatives or go to where they have property due to the fear of being kidnapped or killed.
The monarch said, “Our people are afraid to come home. Due to insecurity, they are afraid to come. That is why they don’t want to come home. How will they visit their relatives and go to where they have property, because of insecurity.
“The governors in the South West, God will continue to protect you. I want you to make sure that our people are safe. It is God that is our security, we know that you have been trying, but you can still do more.
“Our people are afraid, they don’t want to come home.
“In conclusion, in thank the Governor of Oyo state for this program. You can see the governors, in politics, they are enemies, but in security and other things that bind us together, they are one.
“In terms of security, they are one. You can see the way they are sitting there, but that are enemies in politics. I want you to shun partisan politics when we are talking about issues that affect all of us, especially, security of the region.”
