Rivers Decides: Men in military uniforms holding our officials – INEC explains delay in collation of results
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given reason for delay in collation of results of the governorship and state house of assembly elections Rivers State.
Rivers State Head of Voter Education and Publicity of INEC, Edwin Enabor, told BBC Pidgin explained that some INEC returning officers were held down in their polling units by security agencies in military uniforms
According to Enabor, “Some people in military uniforms harassed INEC Returning Officers in the state during Saturday’s polls.
“The men in military uniforms harassed our officials at some collation centres in some local government areas, leading to delay in the collation of result.
“We don’t know if they are truly military personnel, but the INEC personnel called for security.”
He, however, added that the collation centre where the governorship election result in the state will be declared is ready and results will be announced once returning officers arrive.
