Real Madrid vs Melilla: What Scolari said after Copa del Rey match
Real Madrid coach, Santiago Scolari has reacted to his team’s 6-1 victory over Melilla in the Copa del Rey return leg.
Scolari stated that the game allowed him to discover many qualities and committed players in his team.
Real Madrid’s 6-1 win over Malilla, in the return leg of the Copa del Rey yesterday, saw them qualify for the next round of the competition.
Addressing a press conference after the match, the Los Blancos’ coach said, “Today’s game was beneficial, it allows us to see how many quality, committed players we have, they put in a solid display and showed real spark up top.
“It doesn’t matter what division our opposition are playing in. They’re top of their group in Segunda B. Scoring 10 goals in two games isn’t easy and I’m thrilled for everyone who was involved today, the veterans and the youth-team guys who made their debuts, namely Fidalgo and Fran GarcÃa. That’s extremely satisfying, as is Javi Sánchez’s goal, which will surely be one for him to remember forever.
“Vinicius plays on the left and we adjust the positions accordingly. I’ve got no issue with them rotating if they do so in an orderly manner and do their bit defensively. I like to give the players freedom. Carvajal has played on the left more often; Odriozola less so because he’s younger. We’re happy to have him back playing and looking comfortable.
“I am thrilled for Isco, for his two goals and it is a shame about the other one that the goalkeeper kept out. We train hard so that everyone is at their best and focused. I’m happy for him and for Asensio too, who set up two more goals and nearly a third.
“Everyone thinks they should start, otherwise they would not be here. We need eleven players and a part of my job is to choose the ones that play. I am feel content with each of the players who played, from Navas to Mariano, it is not ideal that he picked up an injury.”
