84 ‘thugs’ held for attempt to disrupt primaries

The police in Lagos have arrested 84 suspected thugs for alleged attempt to disrupt primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sixty-eight of them were yesterday paraded by Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.

He said the suspects were nabbed in Ajegunle, Ijora Badia, Oyingbo, Oshodi, Ikorodu and Epe, adding that they were armed.

Edgal confirmed that hoodlums last Friday went berserk, damaging cars and looted shops at Gaskiya Street, Ijora Oloye. 

“The command operatives, led by CSP Indyar Apev, arrested 16 of them. 

“They are Adisa Mohammed, Idowu Alibi, Michael Ogede, Akeem Rilwan, Ayinde Alimi, Muyiwa Usman, Muftau Akeem, Kaseem Ajiboye, Qudus Tajudeen, Damire Adeoye,

Oluwasegun Fauwat, Bashiru Tosin, Ahmed Ibrahim, Kaseem Olatunji, Abdullahi Kudus and Ismail Oluwayin.

“Items recovered from them include cutlasses, weed suspected to be Marijuana and alcoholic drinks popularly called Skuchies.

“I thank Lagosians for conducting themselves peacefully during and after the primaries.

“However, there were pockets of skirmishes in parts of the state owing to thugs’ activities, which were contained.

“The command nabbed 84 thugs from parts of the state, but for logistic reasons, only 68 of them were paraded.”
