The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the removal of the chairman and members of the state civil service commission over alleged indictment for misconduct.
The legislative hammer also fell on the chairman and members of the Kwara state Independent Electoral Commission, KWASIEC.
Officials of the commissions were indicted for their purported inability to discharge the functions of their offices.
The removal of the affected government officials was sequel to three separate letters transmitted by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to the House and read at the plenary.
The letters dated August 6,2019, were addressed to the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
The governor said his action was predicated on Section 201(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, disclosing in the letters that the chairmen and members of the three commissions were given fair hearing prior to their indictment.
For the state civil service commission, the governor sought the two-third majority resolution of the House for the removal of Sakariyau Onimago (Chairman), Samuel Bamisaye, Sharu Koro Mohammed, and Abdulsalam Abgaje Opobiyi, all members of the commission.
DAILY POST reports that 20 members of the House voted in favour of the removal of the officials, thereafter the Speaker said, “in accordance with the Section 201(1) of the 1999 constitution as amended this House hereby approves the removal from the office by the governor of the underlisted as chairman and members of the Kwara state Civil Service Commission for their inability to discharge the functions of their offices on the ground of misconduct”.
